"Aquafrog", sometimes styled as "Aqua Frog", is the fourteenth episode of Season 2 of Wild Kratts, originally airing on PBS Kids on December 26, 2013. Overall, it is the 54th episode of the series. The episode was written and directed by Martin Kratt.

In this episode, the Kratt brothers and Aviva jump into a pond containing bullfrogs to find out more about them and to help Aviva design a Frog Creature Power Suit. Zach Varmitech, however, is desperate to clean his plane, and has been dumping the cleaning waste into a stream that leads to the pond, which could harm young frogs, developing tadpoles, and other animals that live in the pond.

Plot[]

The episode begins with a live action segment, which shows the Kratt brothers finding bullfrogs in a pond. Afterwards, they ask their "What if?" question and the show transitions into the cartoon segment.

The Kratt brothers and Aviva jump into a pond to help Aviva gather information about bullfrogs so she can make a Bullfrog Creature Power Suit. Not far away, four Wild Kratts kids are racing paper boats in the pond, when Zach Varmitech's plane flies above them. Inside, Zach is forcing his Zachbots to clean his plane, when the canister holding the waste bursts causing an even bigger mess. Zach then demands that his Zachbots continue cleaning up the waste and to remove it from his plane.

Aviva returns to the Tortuga to make the Creature Power Suit. The Kratt brothers then find a large bullfrog, which Martin names Tuba. When Martin mentions the frog's life cycle, Aviva, realizing she forgot to consider it in her Creature Power Suit design, returns to the pond and panics, saying "this might be my most difficult Creature Power Suit programming yet!" The Kratt brothers kindly reassure her that she "can totally do this". They miniaturize and jump into the pond, where they find a collection of frog eggs near some aquatic vegetation. The frog eggs hatch, revealing tadpoles. After the Kratt brothers show Aviva the various stages, she returns to normal size and heads back to the Tortuga to continue her work on the Power Suit.

Meanwhile, Zach has finished cleaning up his plane and collected the waste in barrels. Knowing that no one is going to find out and complain, he orders his Zachbots to roll out the barrels and dump the waste into the stream. Eventually, the Wild Kratts kids see the waste traveling downstream to the pond and they report the problem to the Kratt brothers, just as they have returned to normal size. They explain the predicament, and the Kratt brothers immediately start investigating. Aviva brings the "completed" Frog Discs to the Kratt brothers and they activate their Creature Power Suits. Martin successfully transforms into the adult stage, but Chris transforms into a tadpole. After several failed attempts, Chris successfully transforms into the adult stage after letting passerby frogs kick his Creature Power Suit button as he swims by them. Martin and Chris then get out of the river and realize that Zach was the one who caused the pollution and convince him to get rid of the pollution, but Zach refuses to do so and tries to fight the Kratt brothers. Meanwhile, Aviva, Koki, and the Wild Kratts kids finish setting up and turning on a filter to filter out the waste. Aviva then heads to the source of the waste (Zach's jet) and throws down the Miniaturizer. The Kratt brothers return to normal size and fight and successfully destroy the Zachbots, after he sends them to attack them, and while Zach is not looking, they lift a rock and drop it on the pipe, clogging it and causing the canister holding the waste to explode and release. Most of it gets on Zach's clothes. Zach complains that his plane is a mess again and he berates the Kratt brothers for messing up his plane again because he worked so hard getting his plane cleaned and it was the shiniest he ever had it. Afterwards, Aviva develops a chemical that can neutralize the waste and inserts it into a port in the filter, causing the waste in the stream to dissolve.

Zach then orders his Zachbots to land his plane directly into the pond to get his plane washed, but is stopped by the Kratt brothers, who tell him that if he lands there, he will ruin the frog habitat. Zach tells the Kratt brothers that his own clean plane is the only habitat he cares about. The Kratt brothers explain to Zach that he shouldn't dump his mess in a pond because frogs love clean water just as much as he does and they need clean water to live in. Zach then gets freaked out when Tuba, who stepped on the Miniaturizer, enlarges to the size of his plane. Zach wants to leave and hands his items to the Wild Kratts to prove that he is actually going to leave and retreats. After the Kratt brothers exit Zach's plane, they find out that Tuba has grown, but they then realize that this is not part of the life cycle, and also remember how bullfrogs will eat anything that fits into their mouths, including other frogs, which at that point Tuba sticks his tongue out to gobble up the Kratt Brothers. While taking evasive maneuvers to avoid the frog's tongue, Chris returns the enlarged Tuba to normal size and the Wild Kratts summarize their adventure. In the end, the Wild Kratts kids take a ride on Martin and Chris's backs, who are still in frog suits.

The show transitions into the concluding live action segment. The Kratt brothers and some kids catch frogs in the pond with nets. Afterwards, the Kratt brothers conclude the episode by saying "Keep on creature adventuring; we'll see you on the creature trail!"

Key Facts and Creature Moments[]

  • A frog's hind legs are twice as long as its entire body.
  • A frog jumps into the water for safety, but they can't go deep because big fish will eat them. So they cut back and head for the shallows. That's how they stay away from land predators and fish predators at the same time.
  • A bullfrog can eat anything that fits in their mouths, including other frogs.
  • A bullfrog can live for 25 years.
  • Bullfrogs need clean water to live in. In addition, their eggs should also be laid in clean water. If their eggs are surrounded by pollution in any way, then as the tadpoles develop, they will have strange defects such as five legs, three eyes, etc...
