The Common Kingsnake is a species of snake from a variety of habitats in North America, though it prefers grassland or desert habitats. They are among the smallest of all known kingsnakes. They are able to eat other snakes, including venomous species like the Diamondback Rattlesnake. They do this by clamping down on their prey's jaws, preventing them from being bitten. Even if they are bitten, they are immune to the venom. However, any other prey is killed by constriction. They do well in captivity, living for up to 25 years.
