"Creepy Creatures!" is the 18th episode of Season 5 of the PBS Kids show Wild Kratts. It is the 134th episode of the series overall. It premiered on October 22, 2018. It is a two-parter episode, originally airing as a one-hour Halloween special.

Synopsis[]

The Wild Kratts gang is getting ready for Halloween with decorations, jack-o-lanterns, and costumes. The bros decide to have a creepy-cool adventure with some creepy creatures. They split up to find the Goliath birdeater, the largest spider in the world, and the vampire bat, a blood-sucking tiny bat. But with their new creature power suits, they must find and stop Zach, who has taken the Miniaturizer and teamed up with the rest of the villains to capture creepy cool creatures for a scary animal mansion.

Plot[]

The episode begins with live-action Chris and Martin in a corn maze on Halloween, talking about "scary animals", which aren't so scary once you get to know them. Then, the show switches to the cartoon.

The story begins with the gang carving pumpkins while Koki changes the Tortuga to look like a giant jack-o-lantern.

Chris and Martin wonder what they all should do for Halloween, but one thing is for sure: they need costumes. "Way ahead of you, bros!," says Aviva, and she, Koki, and Jimmy Z run inside the Tortuga.A moment later, Chris and Martin see the shadowy figures of the villains emerge from the Tortuga! Chris and Martin are ready to defend. Then, they realize Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy Z are dressed as Zach, Donita, and Dabio for Halloween! The brothers are impressed, but they aren't willing to dress as villains themselves. They want creepy Creature Power Suits!

As Martin and Chris name every creepy Creature Power Disc they already have, spying Zach gets an idea to capture scary animals to put in a house, which he could charge money for kids to enter and be " scared silly." The brothers end up deciding to find creepy creatures they have never before met, and they choose Goliath tarantula (Martin) and vampire bat(Chris). As Martin and Chris set out to search for the animals for their Creature Power Suit Halloween costumes, Zach has the other villains help him gather scary animals. Martin doesn't find a Goliath tarantula, just some cows. "But I don't want to be a moo cow for Halloween.," he says. Tired Martin settles down for a nap with the cows. Then, to Martin's surprise, a vampire bat lands on him. Creepy cool!

Martin observes the vampire bat go onto the cow. The vampire bat's nose can sense heat, which is meant to help the vampire bat sense blood.Vampire bats drink blood for food. Martin calls Aviva, and they go over the details. Vampire bats have a grooved tongue to help them lick up blood, and thier saliva (spit) makes the blood keep flowing. After twenty minutes, a vampire bat will have drunk two tablespoons of blood and be full. This small loss of blood doesn't even hurt animals. Then, as Martin sees, the vampire bat is too full to fly and takes it easy by instead walking on the ground to get around. With this information, Aviva is ready to surprise Chris with his vampire bat power disc!

Chris has been looking for a vampire bat. He heads into a cave in hopes of finding some in there. Instead, he encounters a Goliath tarantula. Creepy cool!

Chris calls Aviva. He describes the interesting features of the tarantula he is showing her. Goliath tarantulas have fangs to inject venom, they can rub their abdomen with their hind legs when alarmed to shoot out urticating hairs (hairs which irritate the skin), and they can catch larger animals to eat, such as birds.

Now, Aviva has two surprise Creature Power Suits to make: Vampire Bat Power and Goliath Tarantula Power!

When Chris and Martin return, they are happily surprised, and they hand each other the animals they found. Once they are fully activated in their cool new Halloween costumes, they exclaim, "Happy Halloween!"

Unbeknownst to them, Zach is sneaking around the Tortuga in his invisibility cloak. He wants to steal the miniaturizer so he can make the animals for his "scary animal mansion" bigger and scarier.

Martin, having Goliath Tarantula Power, begins to rub his abdomen to release the urticating hairs when he senses danger. The hairs stick to Zach's invisibility cloak and reveal his presence.

Chris and Martin do thier best to catch Zach, but he still gets away. Koki is able to track that Zach is heading to Pumpkintown.

By dark, the Tortuga lands in Pumpkintown. There, they run into three Wild Kratts kids: Jenny, Ronan, and Sani. The kids ask the Wild Kratts to trick or treat with them, and Martin, Chris, and Aviva head inside the scary animal mansion with them.

Inside, they hear three spooky voices (it's Zach, Donita, and Gourmand) say, "Pick a door."

"The one with the cupcakes on it!," all three kids say eagerly.

Inside are three huge, yummy looking, pink, candy-decorated cupcakes to tempt the kids. When Jenny picks off a piece of candy, a big-sized Goblin the aye-aye pops out!

Meanwhile, Chris goes off to find Zach. He successfully finds him and snatches the miniaturizer.

Back in the cupcake room, Gourmand, who is in charge of the room, is wrestling Martin. Chris breaks up the fight, but his deactivation button accidentally gets pushed.

The other two kids each pick a cupcake to watch the other two big-sized animals pop out: Grabsy the spider monkey and Shadow the black jaguar. The kids are happy to see the animal pals. "They're not even scared a tiny bit.," Gourmand says. "Another one of Zach's great ideas that didn't work." He storms out the door.

Then, the gang miniaturizes the animals to thier normal sizes, and Martin holds them as they continue walking through the mansion.

Next, everyone heads into Donita's room. "Welcome to the runway of doom.," she says. One by one, pose-beamed animals are forced to walk down the runway. They too are much bigger than they naturally should be. The kids don't find the animals scary; they find them interesting and amazing. Just like Gourmand did, Donita sees Zach's idea didn't work and she leaves. "I'm never listening to Zach again!," she claims.

The gang miniaturizes the animals to thier normal size. Martin picks them up; he has plenty of legs to hold his animal friends with!

However, when it's time to miniaturize the Komodo dragon, the miniaturizer is out of power. Before they charge it to get the Komodo dragon back to real size, they're going to rescue the animals behind the last door. Chris activates Komodo Dragon Power, and on they go.

The gang enters Zach's room. Ghost animals come out from behind the curtain at Zach's command, wailing in a ghostly way. Chris and Martin are freaked out and don't know what to do. The kids help out, pulling the curtain back to reveal a giant robot with animals inside. The "ghosts" are just holograms of the trapped animals, and the ghostly wails are poor trapped Little Howler's howls.

The Wild Kratts are about to come to the creature rescue when Goblin's tapping finger reactivates Martin. The fact that he's holding a lot of animals makes Martin's Creature Power Suit begin to malfunction.

Both Chris and the real Komodo dragon battle the robot, and Chris takes out Little Howler and tosses him to Martin.

Then, Martin's transformation is complete. He still has eight legs and a tarantula body, but with the legs of a gila monster, the arms and hands of an aye-aye, the arms and hands of a jaguar, the tail of a spider monkey, the spines of a thorny devil, the head of a wolf, and the wings of a vampire bat. Creepy cool!

With his new power suit, Martin helps Chris battle the robot, and defeats it by managing to rip some wires. The gang takes the animals, and thier miniaturizer, and leaves.

Now, all of Zach's captured animals are gone, plus two out of three of his fellow villains left. Make that all three. Paisley comes up and snottily presents Zach with a slip of paper.

"What's this?," asks Zach.

"My paving bill.," Paisley tells him as she leaves.

Zach's eyes grow wide when he sees how much it cost for Paisley to pave the area outside the scary animal mansion. "Worst Halloween ever!," Zach yells.

In the Tortuga, the Wild Kratts and crew have a Halloween party with the kids and the animals, complete with candy and singing a song about creepy creatures!

In the live-action closing segment, Chris and Martin show some more creepy cool creatures.

Trivia[]

  • After rescuing his animal friends, Martin's power suit malfunctioned and caused him to gain several of their Creature Powers. The suit contained the body and amount of legs of a tarantula, the legs of a Gila monster, the arms and hands of an aye-aye, the arms and hands of a jaguar, the tail of a spider monkey, the spines of a thorny devil, the head of a wolf, and the wings of a vampire bat. This marks the second time that a character activates a Creature Power which is a mix of different animals. The first time occurred in "Octopus Wildkratticus". It also makes Martin the second character to do so, next to Seven who debuted in said episode.
    • The malfunctioned suit had the wings of a vampire bat (an animal that Martin wasn't holding before activating) but didn't have any features of a Tasmanian devil (an animal he was holding).
  • This is the fifth time where Zach stole the Miniaturizer. His previous attempts were in "The Gecko Effect", "Liturgusa Krattorum", "Praying Mantis", and "Blue Heron".
  • This is the 2nd holiday special. The first was "A Creature Christmas".
  • This is also the 2nd Halloween episode, the first being "Masked Bandits".
  • The various Creature Power Suits are shown in the same fashion as the ones onscreen in Wild Kratts Live 2.0: Activate Creature Power!, only the brothers enter the discs in the process.
  • This is the final special of the 2010's decade.
  • Goof: Grabsy is referred to as a he, even though in Grabsy's debut episode, Bugs or Monkeys?, Grabsy was referred to as a she.
  • Donita claims she's never listening to Zach again. However, in Amazin' Amazon Adventure, she does listen to him again.
  • T-Bone appears in this episode as a fully-grown Tasmanian devil.
    • As devils mature at the age of 2, this would indicate that 2 or more years have passed since the events of "Tazzy Chris".

Key Facts and Creature Moments[]

  • Vampire bats have a grooved tongue that is really good for licking up blood. The special formula in their saliva keeps the blood flowing.
  • Vampire bats can drink 2 teaspoons of blood in about 20 minutes, just enough to provide a full meal for them. They don't drink enough blood to harm the animal.
  • With a full belly, vampire bats have to rest a while before they can take off. They are the only bats in the world that can run and jump on the ground.
  • Goliath tarantulas are the largest spiders in the world.
  • When alarmed, Goliath tarantulas rub their abdomen with their hind legs to release urticating hairs. These special hairs are irritating to the skin.
  • Goliath tarantulas are more commonly known as the bird-eating spider because they have been seen eating and catching birds, and also rodents and lizards.
