"Elephant Brains!" is the 8th episode of Season 5 of the PBS Kids show Wild Kratts. It is the 124th episode of the series overall. It premiered on April 25, 2018.

Synopsis[]

The Wild Kratts are on a mission to figure out the differences between African and Asian elephants. They soon discover that despite their differences, all elephants have lots in common. Like feelings, emotions, and real intelligence. Meanwhile, Paisley Paver forces elephants to work for her.

Plot[]

The episode begins with live-action Chris and Martin explaining the differences between the African and Asian elephant, and Chris mentions "the creature power of the elephant brain" before switching to the cartoon.

The story begins with the crew checking out elephants. While Chris hangs out with their baby African elephant friend Thornsley, Martin is with a herd of Asian elephants, and the rest of the crew watches them onscreen at the Tortuga. Everyone observes the differences between the two species of elephants. They see African elephants have bigger ears( to help keep them cool, since their habitat is hotter), African elephants have smooth heads and Asian elephants have bumpy heads, and African elephants are bigger. Martin names the baby Asian elephant Fingertip due to how she only has one "fingertip" at the end of her trunk to help her grab things, unlike African elephants, who have two.

Thornsley uses his two trunk tips to grab and play with Chris's creature pod. Chris touches Slurpy the aardvark to activate aardvark powers, and digs his way under Thornsley to pop out of the ground and snatch his creature pod back.

Then, poor Thornsley looks despondent. Chris feels bad and comforts him. That's when Jimmy first voices that he doesn't think animals have feelings. So, Chris and Martin decide to prove him wrong.

Meanwhile, Paisley Paver and Rex have arrived in Asia. Paisley Paver plans for them to build a huge building. First, an elephant squirts her with mud, causing her to freak out until Rex cleans her with the power clean machine. Then, when Rex tries to shoo away the elephants so he and Paisley can get to work, an elephant breaks the paving machine. Seeing how strong the elephants are, Paisley decides to make them work for her.

The rest of the crew have met up with Martin in Asia. They have set up an experiment to see if Fingertip can use her brain to find a way to reach delicious mangoes they have put up in the tree. With the help of her mom, Fingertip succeeds. Chris states,"Real experiments have proven to scientists that elephants can learn things and figure things out." Jimmy is now convinced elephants are smart, but he still doesn't believe elephants have feelings.

As the episode goes on, Paisley captures more elephants to work for her, and she captures Chris and Martin.

Chris and Martin witness an elephant refusing to put a beam in a hole. Paisley investigates and sees a porcupine in the hole. This further proved that elephants are kind and have feelings.

Fingertip escapes to the Tortuga. The crew sees how sad she looks. Aviva comforts her, and Koki mentions how elephants touch and hug each other with their trunks to comfort each other when bad things happen, and she showed a clip. Then, Jimmy says, "Wow." When Fingertip touches Chris's backpack and Martin's creature pod, Aviva gets the message that the brothers are in trouble.

Fingertip uses porcupine quills to unlock the other elephants and Chris and Martin. Then, Aviva gives Chris and Martin the Asian elephant creature power disks she made, and the brothers and the other elephants squirt the villains with mud while avoiding Rex's spray of wet cement and break all the paving machines. Paisley Paver and Rex retreat.

The ending shows everyone removing the beams Paisley had put up (and Jimmy admits that elephants have feelings.)

Chris and Martin talk about the amazing elephant brain in the live-action closing segment.
