The false gharial is a member of the family Gavialidae, a long-established group of crocodilians with long, slender snouts, that is native to Borneo. Young false gharials eat fish and small vertebrates, while mature adults feed almost on larger vertebrates, such as proboscis monkeys. It has one of the thinest snouts of any crocodilian, which is filed with hundreds of sharp teeth.
