The Hippo Sub is one of Aviva's various creature-inspired inventions. Designed and modeled after the hippopotamus, she had originally built it to fend off crocodiles before she grew to like them later in its debut episode. It is generally used as a means of underwater transportation and exploration, secondary to the Amphi-Sub. It was built and introduced in the Season 1 episode "Mom of a Croc".

"Mom of a Croc"[]
Aviva started working on the Hippo Sub after she saw a group of territorial hippos go up against Crocodilla, as she wanted to build a vehicle that could ward off crocodiles. She used it to rescue Chris and Martin while they were defending the crocodile hatchlings before their mom came back and mistook them for predators. Afterwards, the Wild Kratts team sat on top of the sub and summarized their adventure.
"Bad Hair Day"[]
Two twin male lions found their way into the Tortuga HQ, so Aviva, Koki, and Jimmy moved He Who Breathes Fire's cubs down to the garage and into the Hippo Sub where they would be safe. One of the cubs knocked the remote out of Aviva's hand before the hatch could finish closing, which the twins soon figured out how to open. Before they got inside, He Who Breathes Fire came to the rescue along with Chris and Martin.
"Race for the Hippo Disc"[]
The Kratt brothers dropped the Hippo Power Disc into a river infested with hippos. Upset, Aviva announced they'll be taking the Hippo Sub to retreive it, so she and Martin took it down while Chris stayed on lookout for Tusker, the dominant male of the herd. When they found the disc and tried to grab it, they got caught up in a fight between two bull hippos and had to retreat.
