The episode begins with a live action segment, which shows the Kratt brothers hanging out with some Asian small-clawed otters. Afterwards, they ask their "What if?" question and the show transitions into the cartoon segment.

An otter gets sucked into the hull of a ship, which travels downriver into the cypress swamps of Florida. The otter leaves the ship and finds the Kratt brothers. Thinking that it is lost, the Kratt brothers decide to find its family. The first thing they do is to teach it how to fish. However, the otter is much too young to catch fish on its own, so they herd some to it. The otter starts sliding down to the edge of the water, which convinces Martin to name it Slider. After introducing Slider to the rest of the crew, Aviva decides to make Otter Discs. After saving Slider from a gar, the Kratt brothers can not understand why Slider does not recognize gars as predators, but they think that Slider is just too young to understand. They call Aviva, who finishes the Discs, which Jimmy teleports. They activate their Creature Power Suits, and continue to search for Slider's family. However, their search returned nothing.

Chris takes Slider to the Tortuga. Aviva swabs Slider's throat and analyzes the saliva, which shows that Slider is from the northern woodlands. Koki then sends a message to some Wild Kratts kids, and eventually receives a signal from Wild Kratts kids Gavin, Ronan, and Katie. They say that an otter has disappeared from the region, and they find out that Slider is that cub. To take Slider back to the northern woodlands, the Kratt brothers pick him up with Osprey Powers. Once they arrive there, Slider is reunited with his actual family.

The show transitions into the ending live action segment. The Kratt brothers continue playing with the Asian small-clawed otters, in the water and out. Afterwards, they conclude the episode by saying "Keep on creature adventuring; we'll see you on the creature trail!"
